Governance and Family Business Transfer

The Chair aims to disseminate tools and good practices observed during studies and provide training to managers and buyers of family businesses. It also aims to help and assist managers in implementing these good practices.

Overview

Editorial by Patrice Charlier

The portion of business transfers within a family is only 12% in France, compared to 65% in Germany and 76% in Italy! These are often poorly or inadequately prepared: only 15% of family businesses have a succession plan, even though it is a complex process. This process includes the transfer of ownership and management, but also, and above all, a strong emotional dimension for the transferor, the transferee, and family members.

One of the key factors in this low number of transfers is the emotional dimension. This is precisely what guides the work and conferences of the Governance and Family Business Transfer Chair.

  • Corporate governance (board of directors)
  • Family governance (family council, family charter)

Our Mission

The Chair’s objective is, on the one hand, to carry out studies on the emotional aspects related to the transfer and governance of family businesses and, on the other hand, to disseminate the results of this work and expertise. This is done through publications in magazines, newspapers, broadcasts, and through training modules for transferors and transferees of family businesses, as well as for directors of family businesses.
