EM Strasbourg's LaRGE Research Center has been awarded €28,000 in funding from theEuropean Savings Institute for its research project entitled “Digital Influence Strategies in Finance: An Experimental Approach.”
This project, which is the continuation of a pilot study funded by the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF ) in 2023, aims to explore the impact of gamification strategies used by online trading platforms on investors' financial decisions.
The project team consists of Marie-Hélène Broihanne , Nicolas Eber, Jérôme Hergueux (CNRS-Beta and ETH Zurich research fellow), and Kene Boun My (CNRS-Beta research assistant). Together, they are using laboratory experiments to analyze how elements such as confetti, badges, and rankings influence investor behavior.
One of the key objectives of this research is to identify the subpopulations most vulnerable to risks of manipulation, while assessing the impact of human influencers and artificial intelligence on investor behavior.
The initial results of this study have already been presented by Marie-Hélène Broihanne to the AMF Board in October 2023 and to ESMA in April 2024. The researchers plan to share new results in October 2024 at a FINRAconference.
This innovative project demonstrates LaRGE's commitment to exploring new frontiers in financial research and contributing to a better understanding of the dynamics of digital influence in the financial sector.
